Senzo A. Lockhaven, the “tragic” protagonist, is an outcast and considered the black sheep of the family due to his fascination with mortals (non-magical humans).
Although he grew up in a castle high atop Mt. Lockhaven in the 6th Dimension, and comes from a long line of “upper class” sorcerers, normal human beings have always intrigued him. Being from an extremely powerful family, this is frowned upon. Senzo is giving and kind-hearted but wears his heart on his sleeve and sometimes is a slave to his emotions. He also has a gentle innocence that endears him to others.
After leaving home, Senzo relocates Earth and makes a home in Atlanta, Georgia. Because all he ever wanted to do was help people, he lands a job as a social worker. Senzo seeks to live a normal life, but he soon finds out that the life of mortals is anything but ordinary. As is the job wasn’t enough, Senzo is in a consistent battle to evade his family's interference.
Senzo's mother, Andramada (pronounced like the “Andromeda” galaxy) D. Lockhaven (nee Andramada Ravenwell), is set in her traditional "Wiccan" ways and looks down on mortals almost as if they were animals or pets. She also comes from a long line of “upper-class” Witches and Warlocks. Andramada strongly disagrees with her son's decision and tries to persuade him to change his mind whenever the opportunity arises.
Andramada has an older sister, Senza F. Ravenwell, for whom Senzo is named. “Senzie”, as her sister affectionately calls her, is the female version of her neurotic nephew and is ruled by her emotions like her namesake.
Senzo's younger brother, Zestero J. Lockhaven, is highly intelligent and excels in magic just like his mother and is a bit more open-minded than her but still isn't thrilled about his brother marrying a mortal. Zesto is quicker to except his future sister-in-law but is embarrassed about how ignorant he is of “mortal lifestyle” being a “know-it-all”. Senzo always calls on him when he needs "magical help". Zesto is quick-witted and has a dry sense of humor matched only by his mother.
Their solemn father, Leonardo M. Lockhaven, is "always on vacation" according to their mother and is talked about but seldom seen. He's described, as being the epitome of what a Warlock should be.
A friend of the family, Jocinda Nightstar, has just received her certification to become a Witch doctor and the family comes to her for magic potions. Jocinda has a solution for any problem and is considered "the best magic potion mixer in the galaxy".
Senzo works, against his family's wishes, as a social worker not only to fit into mortal society more, but also to better understand them. He is a thorn in the side of his boss Mr. M. Nguyen who is stressed out to the point of having a gloomy, pessimistic attitude towards just about everything. The only thing that seems to make Mr. Nguyen smile is his beautiful assistant, Tiffany, a self-centered woman who enjoys leading him on.
Billy Bob and Fran Cohen Baker are Senzo’s neighbors. An eccentric couple who enjoy role playing, Senzo often catches them in uncompromising positions. Billy Bob and Fran know there is something different about Senzo, but they can’t pinpoint the problem with their mysterious neighbor.
All in all, “THE LOCKHAVENS” illustrates that as a society; we should accept each other’s differences because looks can be deceiving. This further emphasizes that, as a human race, we all really have the same problems when it comes down to it. Everyone has adversity in life. It's how we handle it that builds our character and makes us unique.
